The title says it all. This 2-CD collection has 51 tracks from a cross-section of artists mostly from the late 40's and early 50's. Billy Vera has put together a fat slice of American music that bridged the gap between the swing era and rock & roll. I can't tell you how cool I think this album is. Here are a few of my favorite tracks:
Safronia B - Calvin Boze Oo-Pa-Pa-Da - Bab's Three Bips & A Bop Fine Brown Frame - Nellie Lutcher The Frim Fram Sauce- King Cole Trio Pachuko Hop - Ike Carpenter Orchestra I Ain't Drunk - Jimmy Liggins Insect Ball - Big Jay McNeely The House Of Blue Lights - Ella Mae Morse/Don Raye Chicas Patas Boogie (Oh Babe!) - Lalo Guerrero
Most of the tracks are great for lindy-hop. Some of the songs, like Juice-Head Baby and Wrong Neigborhood by the Cootie Williams Orchestra, are too slow for east coast swing, but how can you complain about songs with titles like these?
